Students play the role of real-life medical detectives as they analyze genetic testing results to diagnose disease and study DNA evidence found at a “crime scene.” They solve medical mysteries through hands-on projects and labs, investigate how to measure and interpret vital signs, and learn how the systems of the human body work together to maintain health.
what we're doing in class
Right now our scholars are learning about the 5 human senses. We have dedicated each class period to specific senses for instance day 1 and 2 were spent exploring or hearing and touch senses. Days 3 and 4 were used for taste and smell while day 5 was solely for sight. Everything will tie together for the scholars once we go over the anatomy of the brain. They will be able to connect the functions of the brain with how our senses work.
COMING UP NEXT: The scholars will learn about the different parts of the brain and their responsibilities as it concerns the function of the body. As a final assessment of understanding, the students will dissect a sheep brain in pairs and properly label the different parts. Pictures and videos will be added at the conclusion of this experiment.
